Miss Avery

I was listening to wonderful storytelling by a mom who is also good friends with my friend. We were sitting together at the hospital while my friend was receiving chemotherapy, and the only thing to do on chemo days is to engage in conversation while enjoying each other's company. How old-fashioned does that sound? No one is submerged in a silly phone trolling & scrolling.

I wouldn't miss it for the world. We talk, listen to each other's stories, laugh and talk some more. I wish Jenn didn't have to go through this; however, her chemotherapy brought life-long friends together for the afternoon.

All of the storytelling by the mom was centered around her daughter, Avery, who I've never met. I envisioned a vivacious, young girl who loves sports, family & friends and life. My mind created a freckled-face girl with strawberry blond hair in a basketball jersey with a tom-boyish grin. Avery's mom was explaining how Avery prays for many people each night before going to bed and our friend, Jenn, is always included on her nightly prayer list that Avery manages like a CEO of heaven. Avery is an old spirit. I sense it. She is a very religious girl who loves to attend church, take catechism classes and partake in all of the rituals that go along with practicing a religion. What's funny is that she is so young in years. That's what makes each story so compelling, sweet and funny. When I was Avery's age, I went to church each Sunday but practicing my religion the way Avery does wasn't in my top ten list of fun things to do at that age.

I admire Miss Avery. God created special people like Avery. I may never meet her, but I have a feeling she will do great things with her life.

This is Avery's angel. I wanted something simple and sweet that Avery could look at each day knowing that her efforts and prayers reach people. It's the simple things in life that are the most beautiful. The purest. I made a beaded ring around Avery's angel as a sign of a rosary and made a simple cross on the front of the angel showing that this special angel project's God's wisdom through someone very special. The small stones represent youth and Avery's love of her religion. I hope she likes it.

God has big plans for you, Miss Avery.
