So I made this for a special friend of mine. For her daughter that was just born.
I love Camille because she has a great head on her shoulders, is an animal lover, works hard, plays hard and she does what she says she will do. Inspirational. My kind of woman.
Camille didn't have an easy pregnancy. This is one of the reasons why this piece is so special to me. I wanted to create a piece that used colors and materials that told a story about how a person can grow through life through the support of not only a family but also through nature's habitat that surrounds a person.
The material was specially selected and explained to Camille to teach her daughter when she grows up:
The white tile represents clouds and images that you make out of clouds when you look up at the sky each day. Remember as a kid and all of the animals you would see when you looked up at the moving clouds? Beneath the white tiles show the complexity but also simplicity of all various elements of nature. It's the foundation of life. The earth's soil, wood, moss, flowers, pinecones, rock. They are all elements that need each other to replenish and grow. It's like a family. All inter-woven with elements needed to have a strong family.
The top portion of the tree of life is the symbolic nature of the piece. The dragonfly is Camille's daughter. The symbolism behind a dragonfly is transformation. How Camille's daughter will develop and transform throughout her life. The blue rock and name/date in blue represents the blue sky...the universe and how it looks after Camille's daughter. Protecting her as she experiences life on her own terms.
